Doing what I do for a living, would be impossible, if I didn’t LOVE music.
Whether I’m at home, out for a walk, on the road, or at work, you can be pretty sure I have tunes going, pretty much non-stop. Even if there’s no actual music playing, I’ve usually got a song in my head, giving me an extra bounce in my step.
One of my favourite things, however, is making new musical discoveries.
The latest, is a band, whose spell I’ve fallen under over the past couple of months, Oh Wonder.
This English duo, made up of Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, released their first, self-titled album, in September, and they’ve steadily grown in popularity around the world.
The way they made their album was pretty cool. Starting on September 1, 2014, they wrote, recorded, and released one song per month, from their home studio in London. They then added on a couple more tunes, and released the whole shebang, as an album, this past September.
Their songs are very atmospheric, mid-tempo, synthesizer-heavy, emotional tunes, yet they have a bounce to them, that keeps them from being too syrupy sweet. It’s one album I can easily listen to from beginning to end, and I’ve done so numerous times!
Here’s a sample of Oh Wonder for you… Check out the video for “Lose It!”
If you’re still not convinced, here’s another great one – “Without You!”
Oh Wonder is coming to Saskatoon on June 1st, and I definitely don’t want to miss this one!
Is there an artist or group you want to let me know about? Let me know… I’d love to check ’em out!
