The Facebook Like Contest, we have all seen them like crazy. Like if this Lotto 649 ticket hits, I will give everyone 10 grand. Or like this page and you have a chance to win concert tickets. Radio stations have done it before and some still do and after reading a story about a guy being sued for 10 million dollars because of one of these contests I had to learn a little more about these. Trust me I have liked many of those pages thinking that if that person hit’s their 649 ticket I’m going to get some money. C’mon now! Free money and all I have to do is like a page and they will pay me? You would have to be stupid not to!
It’s call Crowd Sourcing. It’s a way to get people to like your Facebook page of your business or product by promising someone that they will give you something for free by just liking their page or status.
According to Facebook….
“You must not condition registration or entry upon the user taking any action using any Facebook features or functionality other than liking a Page, checking in to a Place, or connecting to your app. For example, you must not condition registration or entry upon the user liking a Wall post, or commenting or uploading a photo on a Wall.”
To Sum that up. You like it, that’s fine, doesn’t mean you can win anything. You just liked the picture or the page. You didn’t register in for anything. You didn’t provide any information to the person like a phone number or your date of birth or where you’re from. I know what you’re saying right now, well all my information is on my Facebook page, that should count. Well no it doesn’t because you don’t have any real proof that’s you. Someone could of just made up a profile of you. Best example, when you sign your lotto ticket when you buy it and then cash it in. That’s proof that it’s you because you signed your name. You where there when you did that so they know it’s you!
Now what happens if the person hit’s lotto 649 and wins 100 Million. Well congrats to that person for winning the lotto, that person just won 100 Million. Now how does that person get a hold of you? They can’t message you on facebook saying you won. That person needs to contact you by phone number. If they were to message you on Facebook and then ask you for your phone number, they can’t do that. You have to have a verbal confirmation saying that you won.
