Hey, everybody! Reader here, and I just wanted to share a quick story about a very nice thing that happened to me a few days ago, and sent me into the Canada Day long weekend feeling really good.
After I Nik and I wrapped up our show on Friday morning, I headed over to the convenience store next to the station, as I often do, to grab myself a mid-morning snack.
I proceeded to say ‘hello’ to the fine folks working there, and grabbed my usual munchables – a Coke, Kit-Kats, some chips… all the good stuff. About 10 or 11 bucks worth of stuff.
As I got to the till to pay, I reached into my pocket, grabbed my wallet, and opened it up… only to discover that my debit card had somehow vanished! I was completely confused, and couldn’t figure out what the heck had happened to it.
With no cash in my pocket, and no debit card to pay, I was content to leave my stuff there, and go on my merry way. It wasn’t a vital purchase, and I could get by without my candy fix for a day. So I said “thanks, anyway,” and left the store.
I crossed the street, and had just gotten back to the parking lot outside Broadcast Place, and I head a voice behind me, calling out, “Wait!!!”
When I turned around, and there was the young lady, who was waiting in line behind me, with a bag in hand – she paid for my stuff for me! She smiled and wished me a “Happy Canada Day,” saying “I’ve been in the same situation!”
I couldn’t believe it! All I could do was give her a hug and say “Thank you very much!”
I didn’t catch this red-haired stranger’s name, but I heard her saying she was heading to Saskatoon for the long weekend. I hope she had a safe trip, and a great weekend!
It’s really amazing how a random act of kindness can make a big difference in someone’s day. It had been a tough couple of days for me, following the passing of a close relative earlier in the week, and that small kindness definitely lifted my spirits and put a smile on my face.
Sometimes, with all the negative news, and all the bad things happening around the globe, it’s easy to forget that there’s a lot of good in the world, too. And, when it comes right down to it, the good truly does outweigh the bad.
I definitely plan to pay that act of kindness forward when I get the opportunity, and encourage you to do something nice for someone else, too.
Let’s keep spreading the good vibes, and make our world a better place!
