It feels like it’s almost customary to mention my caffeine of choice every morning, and since I’m a creature of habit, I went with the extra large coffee this morning, on purpose this time!
Reader and I had a pretty long conversation this morning that eventually spilled out over the airwaves and on our Facebook page, it all started with the “hottest toy of 2017” which is this adorable little thing:
That’s a Fingerling, and it’s most likely what your children want under the tree this December. Now, I’m a 90’s kid, so I remember the hullabaloo around the “tickle me Elmo” …
…while Reader, being a child of the 80’s remembers the absolute chaos that were Cabbage Patch kids…
…but the talk sort of shifted, to me the holiday itself was never about the gifts, even as a kid, it was the feeling of the holiday itself, and I’ve got to tell you, I can only remember one time growing up when Christmas was truly magical to me.
now, a little backstory: growing up, we split Christmas between sets of grandparents; those on my mom’s side lived in a house at Emma Lake, our December 25th destination, while my grandparents on my dad’s side lived in a condo in Saskatoon, our January 7th destination (That Grandpa was an Orthodox Priest)
I can still remember one particular Christmas, I was 6 years old, we stayed at home for Christmas that year, and I can remember running around our dark living room, the lights on the Christmas tree the only thing illuminating little Nik as I ran around shooting my brand new power rangers power blaster, and for some reason, even now it gives me that crazy warm feeling and I can’t explain it, its just…Christmas.
Reader and I have talks like this all of the time, both on and off the air, and I guess its just one of those days where I’m feeling…sentimental. It is the end of November after all, we’re about to get in to that holiday spirit here at Fox FM, and you’re probably starting up as well, I’m stoked I get to be a part of this Christmas with you.
