I’m the first to admit it…we spoil our dogs. They have their own beds, their own treats and they have a pretty sweet life. That being said….my dog Duke can be socially inept.
He likes his toys and we are always on the look out for new and interesting toys, not just for him but for Whezzy and Cady Purry the cat too. We came across this squeek toy that had many little soft rubber spikes sticking out of it. Thinking he would be to in to it we picked it up and brought it home to him. As it turns out he LOVES this toy. He’ll carry it around all over the house, brings it to you when he wants to play. he’ll spend hours chewing and making it squeek and we’re impressed he hasn’t chewn out the squeek part which he has a habit of doing. After which he’ll lose interest in it and forgets about the toy. Until some other dog finds it then he’ll take it away from them. lol
Wheezy on the other hand does not like to play…with toys. She’s laid back and would rather enjoy a good petting instead of fetching. She’ll even cower a little when Duke gets all worked up with his new toy. Could be a result of her life outdoors as a stray for so long before she came in to our lives. Either or, we respect her little issues and try to keep Duke from getting too excited. Apparently Duke also took notice of this…
Recently, on a dark pre dawn walk to the washroom..i noticed Wheezy sitting beside her bed, Duke sprawled out on his, tag wagging lazily. I didn’t think much of it at the time (because i was still half asleep) Seems as though Duke had taken his new toy (which Wheezy does not like) and placed it on Whezzy’s dog bed (right next to Dukes bed btw) She wouldn’t lay on her bed with that toy on it and Duke wasn’t moving it…he’d just gaze over at his toy like it was greatest thing ever. lol poor Wheezy, i don’t know how long she was sitting there, wishing she could lay on her bed and sleep.
I grabbed his toy and tossed in to the toy bin, right away Wheezy started to make he turns and get her bed back in her shape as Duke ran to fetch his toy. By the time he returned, Wheezy was ignoring him and was soon sleeping soundly. Her bed reclaimed and he was left standing with his squeek toy in his mouth. After a few minutes he just softly put it on the floor in front of his bed and went back to sleep.
He has no idea how his toy can suddenly appear now and again but it never seems to be around during sleep time : )
