Hey everybody! Reader here, and we’re nearly a month into the 2018 Stanley Cup Playoffs. It’s been a pretty wild postseason, with the Vegas Golden Knights continuing their storybook run in their first-ever season, the Winnipeg Jets getting Canadians excited about the prospect of a champion coming from north of the 49th Parallel, for the first time since 1993, and, well, Brad Marchand and his shenanigans.
But, in case anyone had forgotten, Nik and I had made a little wager on the first round series between my beloved Philadelphia Flyers, and their archrivals, and two-time defending Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
If my Flyers came out on top, I’d get to shave Nik’s beard and moustache off, live on air. But, if the Penguins got the job done, I’d have to let my beard grow for the entire duration of the playoffs.
Well, suffice it to say, the Pens took the Battle of Pennsylvania in six games, and I’ve become much more hirsute in the meantime. Check it out…
However, if there is one silver lining, there is something I can smile about, as last night, Evgeny Kuznetzov scored the overtime winner, as the Washington Capitals finally got the monkey off their back, beating the Penguins in a playoff series, for the first time in the Ovechkin/Crosby era, ensuring that there’ll be a new champion this year, and no threepeat for Sid and Company, which, as a diehard Flyer fan, makes me so very happy! For me, whatever happens in the playoffs from here on out, is gravy!
