I’m free. Sweet beardless freedom.
Reader here, and for those of you who have been following along, over the past couple of months, I’ve been stuck growing a ridiculous beard, after I lost a bet with Nik, on the first round series between my beloved Philadelphia Flyers, and their archrivals, the Pittsburgh Penguins.
As time went on, the beard grew and grew, before becoming this shaggy mess that awaited the razor after last night’s game…
But, with my fears growing that I’d be stuck with this beard through the weekend, Lars Eller broke the tie in the third period, scoring the goal that would give the Capitals their first-ever Cup!
Not only was it sweet victory for Washington, but it was sweet relief for this guy, as I was able to lather up, and get rid of the animal that had apparently attached itself to my face!
And finally… the job was done. I can see my face again, and I feel like a new man!
So, in the end, the Caps are the champs, my beard bit the dust, and now I focus on whether or not my Flyers can make some noise in 2018-2019. Lets hope so!
Oh, and one other note… I have never been so happy to see a non-Flyer win the Stanley Cup, as I was to see this guy hoist the big prize…
Alexander Ovechkin has gotten such an unfair rap over the years, being labelled as a “choker.” A guy who you couldn’t with the Cup with. A guy who (gasp) has the nerve to enjoy playing hockey and displaying a little personality – something the hockey world HATES. With last night’s win, and the Conn Smythe Trophy that Ovi won with it, as playoff MVP, any criticism of the Great 8 is now and forever null and void. He is a winner. Full stop.
Enjoy your moment, Washington. My Flyers are coming for you! LET’S GO FLYERS!!!
