Hey, everybody! Reader here, still getting over England’s loss in the World Cup semifinals, over in Russia. Congrats to France, who beat Croatia, to win the whole darn thing!
As you guys and gals may have noticed, I wasn’t around last week, as I used some vacation time to recharge the batteries.
What did I get up to? Well, to start my week off, our slow-pitch team took our show on the road, on Saturday and Sunday, to Preeceville Western Weekend. We set up camp, played six ball games (eventually losing in the “A” semifinal), and did our best not to be blown away by the craziest wind most of us had ever played in. We would literally have to pause the game every few pitches, to let a new wave of dust go by. At one point, home plate even flew away! My tent, also flew away at one point, as the little pegs anchoring it to the ground were no match for Mother Nature. But, all-in-all, we had a blast, and we’re already looking forward to returning in 2019! Thanks to all the volunteers, for putting on such a great event!
After a couple more games in our league, on Monday night, I hit the road and headed to the farm, at Conquest, about an hour southwest of Saskatoon. While in the Bridge City, I stopped and enjoyed a delicious quick lunch, from Franky’s Banh Mi. Check them out if you’re hungry – so good!
On Wednesday, me, my parents, and my youngest brother, Barrett made the trip to Ag In Motion, about 15 minutes outside Saskatoon, near Langham. I knew the show was pretty big, but I had no idea, just how huge it was! You definitely need more than a day to see it all!
My family runs a mixed farm, mainly focusing on cattle, with some grain mixed in, as well. If you need equipment for a certain task, you’ll find it at Ag In Motion! We checked out everything from cattle squeezes, to tree pullers, to stock trailers and aerial farm photography (We found a shot of our family farm that probably dates back to the early 1950’s)
It’s definitely worth your while to check out the show, and make sure you’re up to date on the latest developments in the farming industry. My Mom described the show as the Christmas Wish Book for my Dad – filled with all kinds of stuff that he can’t have! Haha!
Beyond that, I spent the rest of my week off relaxing and visiting family. This week and next week, I’m back at work, but I do have another week off after that, so I’ll be back with Part Two of my travel adventures!
As an added bonus, here’s a couple of other Reader Rambles…
- If you’re looking for some fun things to watch on Netflix, I’ve really been into travel and food shows over the past few months. Some of the shows I really dig are: “Samurai Gourmet,” “Midnight Diner: Tokyo Stories,” “Ugly Delicious,” “Somebody Feed Phil,” and “Departures.”
- The Riders are getting better with every week, but I’m hoping Duron Carter makes his way back to the offensive side of the ball soon. I’m not sure what Chris Jones’ plan is, but it seems counterproductive to have our most explosive receiver playing defense!
- I’m very happy to see James van Riemsdyk return home to my Philadelphia Flyers! The trade for Luke Schenn was bad when it happened, and it only looked worse as the years went on, and JVR kept lighting the lamp for the Maple Leafs!
- I’m still torn on the DeMar DeRozan trade. Loved having him with the Raptors for the past nine years, but when you can get a player like Kawhi Leonard, sometimes you have to roll the dice. Now, the big question is, can the Raps convince him to stay next summer, when he’s a free agent?
And, finally, is there anything better than a fresh shave and a haircut? I feel like a new man!
Have a great weekend, everybody!
