Hello, everyone! Reader here, and December has arrived. That means it is well and truly Christmas time.
Generally, I hold off on getting all Christmassy until the 1st of December, though I did put up my tree with about two weeks to go in November. I just makes me feel good, and helps me get into the spirit of the season.
But one of my favourite things about this time of year, is Christmas music. I love the classics, and dig some newer interpretations of them. So over the next few weeks, leading up to the big day, I’d like to share with you guys, some of MY all-time holiday favourites. I hope you enjoy!
Well, I’ll start with one I’ve mentioned more than a few times… I call it my favourite cheesy Christmas song – Paul McCartney’s “Wonderful Christmastime.”
Macca wrote this 1979 classic, and performed all the instruments on it. Despite that, all the members of Wings appear in the video!
Fun Fact: Even though this particular tune often gets knocked as one of McCartney’s more, shall we say, mediocre efforts, he’s estimated to make about $400,000 a year off it, when Christmas rolls around, and you either hear his original, or someone else’s cover version. Maybe he’ll write a sequel… (“Simply haaaaving a bone-chilling HALL-O-WEEN!) Happy Christmas, Paul McCartney!
I also love two artists, that, at first glance, you’d think couldn’t be more diametrically opposed. The legendary Tony Bennett, and one of today’s biggest singers, songwriters, (and now, movie star), Lady Gaga.
Some people know I am a huge fan of Jazz and standards, which is Tony Bennett’s bread and butter. I got to see him in concert about nine years ago, in Regina, and he was amazing! But, Lady Gaga actually grew up singing a lot of those same standards, too. When the two of them joined forces, for their 2014 album, “Cheek To Cheek,” it was magic. So good! I can’t recommend it enough! Anyhoo, they also decided to releas a surprise Christmas single, the classic, “Winter Wonderland.” Have a listen. Aren’t they great?
That’ll put some pep in your step, eh?
Over the next couple of weeks, I look forward to sharing more of my holiday favourites with you. I hope you love ’em as much as I do, and if you have any that you suggest I check out, send me a message on our social media, or email me, at firstname.lastname@example.org! Can’t wait to check out some of your faves!
