Hey, everybody! Reader here once again, and over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been sharing a personal countdown of some of my most favourite Christmas songs. They’re tunes that always make me feel good, and put me in the spirit of the season.
In case you forgot, here were the first eight entries on my list:
10) “Wonderful Christmastime” – Paul McCartney
9) “Winter Wonderland” – Lady Gaga & Tony Bennett
8) “White Christmas” – Eric Clapton
7) “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)” – Darlene Love
6) “Christmas Time Is Here” – Vince Guaraldi Trio
5) “Run Rudolph Run” – Keith Richards
4) “Christmas In Hollis” – Run-DMC
3) “What Christmas Means To Me” – Stevie Wonder
And now, it’s time for the two songs that top my list of holiday favourites.
At #2, is one of the biggest icons in the history of popular music… “The Chairman of the Board,” “Ol’ Blue Eyes” himself… Frank Sinatra.
That man could sing a song like no one else. He was really the first teen idol, that pre-dated the Rock ‘n’ Roll age, and some of the most beautiful music he ever recorded, were Christmas songs. This one in particular, is my fave. “Silent Night” is a beautiful song, and when Frank sings it just feels like the warmth of his voice envelops you. Have a listen… you’ll see what I mean.
See what I mean? Just a heartwarming rendition. Almost makes you want to cry!
But that’s not the tune that tops my list!
My #1 favourite Christmas tune is a more recent recording, by one of the biggest Canadian bands of the 1990’s.
Winnipeg’s own Crash Test Dummies top the list, with their version of “The First Noel!”
Brad Roberts’ trademark deeper-than-deep baritone voice kicks things off, but then when he’s joined by the sweet voice of fellow Dummy Ellen Reid, the song really soars!
Here it is!
It doesn’t even have to be the Christmas season… I can listen to that absolutely anytime!
So, there you have it, my ten favourite Christmas songs! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do!
But wait… there’s more!
I promised a bonus, and here it is.
First off, the all-time holiday classic, Clement Moore’s “The Night Before Christmas,” as read by the one-and-only Louis “Satchmo” Armstrong! Just try not to smile when you listen!
And finally, my all-time favourite Christmas special, “1987’s “A Muppet Family Christmas!”
It’s the rare occasion when the “Muppet Show” gang, the crew from “Sesame Street,” the “Fraggles,” and even the “Muppet Babies” show up together in the same special! As you’d assume, hilarity ensues! enjoy!
Every year, without fail, during the carol sing at the end, I ALWAYS get a little tear, and then the special cameo at the end, is the icing on the cake. Sheer Christmas Bliss!!!
I’ve got the next week off, so, on behalf of my family, I want to wish you all the Merriest Christmas ever, and all the best in 2019!
See you guys in the New Year!
