Hey, everyone! Reader here.
As we started 2019, Nik had mentioned that as we wrapped up the Christmas season, I had done a little countdown of my favourite Christmas tunes, and he had asked if I had made a list of my favourite albums of the past year.
I hadn’t… until now!
Every year, there’s a ton of great music released, and 2018 was no exception.
Here, in no particular order, are six of my favourite albums released over the past 12 months. Some you’ll hear on Fox FM, some maybe not, but I encourage you to check it all out. There’s a lot of great stuff!
“Raise Vibration” – Lenny Kravitz
I am always down for a little Lenny. To this day, ’93’s “Are You Gonna Go My Way” remains one of my all-time favourite, go-to albums, when I just want to crank up the jams. His newest album, continues to do what he does best. Combine the vintage with the modern, in a way that few others have mastered. As with all of his albums, there’s always a few standout tracks, and “Raise Vibration” is no exception. Check out “Low!”
“Tearing At The Seams” – Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats
I fell in love with their first album, and their follow-up album is just as great, in not better! There’s a lot of soul, that big band sound, and tunes that’ll make you shake your butt, or tug at your heartstrings.
You get to hear “You Worry Me” on Fox FM, but I also love this one…
“Egypt Station” – Paul McCartney
Macca returned in 2018 with his 17th solo album, and and for a guy who’s 76 years old, he still has a ton of youthful energy!
The Beatles’ legend put together an outstanding collection of tunes, including this fun anti-bullying anthem!
“Good Thing” – Leon Bridges
Following up his fantastic debut album, “Coming Home,” Leon Bridges returned with “Good Thing,” which beautifully melded his vintage soul-inspired sound with a more modern approach, and once again, he made magic!
Here’s one of my fave tracks from the album… It always gets me moving!
“Solastalgia” – Missy Higgins
Possibly my favourite Australian import of all-time, Missy Higgins has been making some incredible music for years, and last year, she came out with another collection of songs that are fun, thought-provoking, and emotional, sometimes all at the same time! This is a great song off the album, telling how romance can occur anytime, anywhere!
“Rally Cry” – Arkells
Finally, from probably Canada’s biggest band at the moment, maybe my absolute favourite album of 2018, coming straight outta Steeltown, it’s Arkells, with “Rally Cry!”
Ten energetic tunes, the boys get you dancing, make you feel all kinds of emotion, and get political all at the same time, as they let the world know what they think of a certain guy running the show south of the 49th!
Not a weak track on the album, I can listen to this any time.
What’s even better, is that after meeting the guys in 2017, out at Minnedosa, I can confirm they’re really nice, friendly dudes, and it makes you happy to see their continuing success!
How ’bout a little “People’s Champ” to wrap up the list! Enjoy!
What will 2019 bring in terms of new music? I can’t wait to find out!
