Bell’s 2OT heroics helps Broncos force Game 7 with Melfort in SJHL Semi-Final

Spencer Bell’s game winner 8:59 into the second overtime period led the Humboldt Broncos to a 4-3 victory over the visiting Melfort Mustangs in Game 6 on Sunday night to force a Game 7 in their SJHL Semi-Final.

The Mustangs led 3-1 after 2 periods on the strength of goals from Tye Evans, Danton Cox and Aidyn Hutchinson but Brayden Skogstad and Cage Newans with 47 seconds left in regulation tied it up for Humboldt in the third.

Broncos netminder Benjamin Motew was terrific making 56 saves on 59 shots while Melfort goalie James Venne turned aside 39 of 43.

The two teams meet on Tuesday night in Melfort for Game 7 with a trip to Flin Flon on Friday night for Game 1 of the SJHL Canterra Seeds Cup Final on the line.
