Weird, But Good: “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” Movie

Over the weekend, I visited my girlfriend and we had a movie night. We decided to watch “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” and let me tell you, it was one of the strangest movies I have ever seen. From the eerie music to the unsettling plot, this film had us confused and weirded out the entire time.

The movie follows the story of a successful surgeon who forms a strange relationship with a teenage boy, leading to a series of bizarre and disturbing events that unfold in a way that keeps you guessing until the very end. I’m serious when I say that I had no clue what the plot of the movie was until about 2/3 of the way in. Then it clicked. The tension and suspense in this film were strong, leaving us both feeling a bit uneasy and unsettled by the end.

Despite the unsettling nature of the film, we couldn’t help but be captivated by the stunning cinematography and brilliant performances by the cast. Colin Farrell and Nicole Kidman delivered powerful performances that added to the overall eerie atmosphere of the film. The movie was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos who also did the 2023 film “Poor Things”. Apparently this is the style of films he makes, so now I want to see others from him.

Overall, “The Killing of a Sacred Deer” was a thought-provoking and intense film that left us with plenty to discuss and dissect long after it was over. It’s not a movie for everyone, but if you enjoy psychological thrillers that push the boundaries of traditional storytelling, then this is definitely one to add to your watchlist.
