Why is the Sonography Program So Important?

The Airwaves For Health Radiothon is today and tomorrow, April 29th & 30th. Money raised will go towards the Yorkton Regional Hospital to buy new equipment, as well as the brand new Sonography program at Suncrest College. This is the first Sonography program in all of Saskatchewan and is slated to run in the Fall of 2024.

Sonography, also known as ultrasound imaging, plays a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions. From monitoring the growth and development of a fetus during pregnancy to detecting and diagnosing internal injuries or diseases, Sonography is an indispensable tool in modern medicine. This program will not only benefit aspiring healthcare professionals but also improve access to quality healthcare services for everyone in the region.

Accessing specialized healthcare services can be a challenge in rural areas. By offering a Sonography program in Yorkton, Suncrest College is helping those living in the area to be able to stay close to home while attending school, and therefore being able to work within the Yorkton hospital and surrounding hospitals as well. This way, students don’t need to travel to another province for a Sonography program, where they usually don’t come back. They go to school here, and can find work here.

This is one of many things that the Yorkton Health Foundation is raising money for, including equipment for the Yorkton Regional Hospital such as a chemistry analyzer, ceiling lifts for the ICU, and more.
