Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga Review: How Did I Not Know About This?

Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, dropped in theatres recently on May 24th. I had a chance yesterday to check it out and I’m glad I did. Unfortunately despite the positive ratings, the movie did not do too well in the box office. I’m pretty confident it’s because of poor marketing. I actually had no idea this movie existed until yesterday when a coworker invited me to see the movie. I saw the trailer and it looked fantastic. Furiosa is a prequel that directly leads up to the 2015 film Mad Max: Fury Road.

If you haven’t seen Fury Road, here’s the gist. The story follows Max Rockatansky, a lone drifter burdened by his past, and Imperator Furiosa, a fierce warrior determined to rebel against a tyrannical leader. Together, they embark on a perilous journey across the desert, driving a war rig loaded with precious cargo—human lives seeking redemption and freedom. Mad Max: Fury Road delves into themes of survival, redemption, and the human spirit. It’s a story of determination in the face of overwhelming odds, where every character’s struggle adds to the rich, immersive tapestry of a dystopian world.

Now that we’re caught up with Fury Road, I have to say that Furiosa was a fantastic film. It was not as action packed as Fury Road, but it still had some incredible action that you would expect from a Mad Max movie. Furiosa was filled with a lot of plot and the lore of how she came to be the warrior we know from the 2015 film. And while we had Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa this time instead of Charlize Theron, she did an incredible job representing who Furiosa is.

While I have not seen the original 80’s Mad Max movie, Furiosa helped me learn even more about the dystopian Wasteland. The action scenes had me on the edge of my seat, and the only things I could mutter out the whole time were obscenities from all the craziness happening.

I’m sad that this movie has not gotten the attention it should get. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a must-see, especially if you’ve seen the 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road. This catches you up to speed on how things came to be, as well as a detailed storyline on an infamous character. Would I recommend seeing it? Absolutely.
