It’s Official: Peaky Blinders Greenlit for a Movie on Netflix

Netflix has confirmed, in association with BBC Film, a Peaky Blinders movie is in the works. “It seems like Tommy Shelby wasn’t finished with me,” said Cillian Murphy. “It is very gratifying to be re-collaborating with Steven Knight and Tom Harper on the film version of Peaky Blinders. This is one for the fans.” The Film will go into production later this year and is set to continue after the original storyline. Although we don’t know the current plot for the movie, I would expect a trailer to come within the year.

Peaky Blinders is a British historical, award winning crime drama television series with six seasons. The show is set in Birmingham, England, and follows the exploits of the Shelby crime family in the aftermath of World War I. Led by the Tommy Shelby, the family runs an illegal betting operation and gradually expands their empire through a combination of intimidation, violence, and political influence. The series portrays the social and economic unrest of post-war Britain. The Peaky Blinders, named for their practice of sewing razor blades into the peaks of their flat caps, face constant threats from rival gangs, law enforcement, and political factions.
