Reasons 1-d20: Why Grayson’s Broke

So as I’ve been slowly finding space for things in my apartment, I’ve gotten to open up boxes from a few moves back, and rediscover the contents all over again. Today’s find? DICE!

Now I play a lot of Dungeons and Dragons, and Pathfinder, and obscure, indie TTRPGs (TableTop Role-Playing Games), and one thing most of these games have in common is that they need dice! And the people who run comics shops and game stores know this, so they stock the nicest looking dice they can find, all in the hopes of snaring hapless players in their clutches in the pursuit of shinier, neater math rocks.

I’m not ashamed to admit I’m not immune to the temptation, and so I figured I’d show off my favourite sets from the collection!

This first set isn’t anything special, but I like ’em anyways lol. I was playing a beekeeper at this point in a campaign, and wanted some honey dice to match the character, and these ones fit the bill! The glitter might seem a little gimmicky, but that’s only because I haven’t shown you the next set.

Now these dice are made for D&D specifically, and are fashioned in the shape of different potions from the game. The tiny red phials are 4-sided dice, and correspond to healing potions that restore in increments of d4s!

This one is fun because it’s also a 4-sided die, but moon shaped for all the moon themed characters out there.

Now this last set is my personal favourite. Not just because they’re a nice shade of blue (although they are a REALLY nice shade of blue), but because of how fun they are for those pivotal moments in a game. Because, if I’m ever rolling poorly…

I can charge them up and PRESTO! A glowing die to save the day. Or roll a 1 and ruin everything. At least it’ll look neat!
